We Are Lions and Anchor Drops
Umphrey’s McGee has teamed up with We Are Lions (WAL) to present a new line of merchandise to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Anchor Drops. WAL is a Chicago-based nonprofit apparel and design company, that features artists with disabilities’ artwork on everyday products. Working with individuals with disabilities and mental illnesses around the world, WAL provides social and economic opportunities to these marginalized populations, all while churning out some pretty bad-ass art.
In February of 2019, David Schwartz, Founder and CEO of WAL, reached out Umphrey’s to see how we might work together. And with the UMHQ abuzz preparing to launch Anchor Drops Redux, we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to add a fresh visual take on the beloved album. We sent over the audio files of Anchor Drops for inspiration, and the WAL artists got to work.
We selected our favorite designs of the bunch – a “Robot World” squadron by Saul Alegria, a cheeky pop-art “Wife Soup” by Mireya Betances, an intricate homage to Chicago by Harold Jeffries, and a surreal “13 Days” piece by Phoebe Pitcock.
Check out the Anchor Drops Gallery in the WAL online store, and shop made-to-order t-shirts, throw pillows, shower curtains and more. Umphrey’s is pumped to be the latest in the good company of arts industry peers to partner with We Are Lions, and we encourage you to check out their full line of made-to-order goods.
