Umphrey's McGee is proud to present sUMmer school, a five day summer music camp nestled in the heart of the gorgeous Catskill Mountains at the Full Moon Resort in Big Indian, New York. sUMmer school is in session August 6-10, 2012, and will offer 150 musicians and music lovers an exploration into the music and inner workings of Umphrey's McGee.

Each day you and your fellow sUMmer schoolers will join the six band members, Umphrey's management and crew for interactive workshops, performances, sessions, and other group activities throughout the week that will bring you closer to the aspects of music that mean most to you. We'll be offering a behind the scenes look into what makes the Umphrey's McGee clock tick. sUMmer school is meant for aspiring musicians of all skill levels and ages, those of you looking sharpen your skills and learn more about how we make music. Unlike your days of high school algebra, sUMmer school will be an open ended adventure in rock where we'll push the boundaries and break down walls, and have a lot of fun along the way. If you don't happen to be a musician, but you are passionate about music, interested in recording, lighting, or looking for an Umphrey's business 101 tutorial, sUMmer school will give you the hands on chance to ask the questions you've always wanted to ask while learning many of the essentials of the industry.

sUMmer school will make it's home at the Full Moon Resort nestled deep in the Catskills amongst 80,000 acres of natural beauty that will be the backdrop for our musical retreat. Our hosts at Full Moon offer cozy, comfortable & rustic indoor accommodations as well as gorgeous outdoor campsites with all the amenities, three amazing gourmet meals per day, an olympic-sized spring fed swimming pool, sprawling meadows, hiking trails along the Esopus Creek, and multiple performance spaces and meeting areas that will redefine the notion of a 'classroom'. Common areas include a library, billiard room, road house with full service cash bar, café, barn jam room, and the The Valley View House at the center of the resort. Accommodation options are vast with shared inn-style double occupancy rooms alongside a number of cabins, cottages, and lodges throughout the property. Outdoor campers will have access to all resort facilities as you sleep under the summer stars.

Each day we'll meet in the morning for a collective breakfast and continue the day with both group activities and break out sessions, depending on your interests. We follow up the morning sessions with lunch, more afternoon sessions and personal time to schedule one on one lessons or take time to soak in the surroundings. The days will conclude with a sit down dinner with the team, followed post dinner performances by Umphrey's McGee, open jams with members of the band and sUMmer school participants, and campfire singalongs into the night.

Maybe you want to learn how to play with two guitarists in a band? Or perhaps you want to dig in and learn the nuances of our song writing or improvising process? Is the foodie in you wanting to smoke a pork shoulder with Andy? You want to play music as well as throw some washers with the guys? Or maybe you want to be a part of a group improvisation? The beauty of sUMmer school is that you're going to help write the syllabus. We'll send every person who registers a survey where you'll get to tell us a bit about yourself, your musical skill level (or technical skill level for non-musicians) and what you'd like to get out of your sUMmer School experience. This is your chance to help us create the experience you want.

sUMmer school 2012 is in session – join Andy, Brendan, Jake, Joel, Kris, Ryan and the rest of the Umphrey's home team August 6-10, 2012 for what will be part camp, part workshop, part party, and all fun.
